Design Review

design review

Good design has a significant impact on the quality of Yorkshire’s towns and cities, growing their ability to attract investment and achieve sustainable economic growth. The relationship between people, buildings and space is also affected by design; directly impacting on health and wellbeing, comfort and safety. Government policy reflected in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) encourages high quality and inclusive design which is indivisible from good planning.

Design Review can help you as a:

  • Developer or designer to demonstrate to a local planning authority that your scheme is well designed, works with the area’s context and meets end user needs
  • Local authority planning officer with your committee reports to show that a scheme seeking approval reflects the high level of design quality sought for your area, will fit in with what is already there and suit the local community’s needs
  • Member of your local community group to work with built environment experts to make the most of your place for everybody

Design Review is recognised in the NPPF as way to constructively assess the design quality of projects. An additional requirement is that local authorities should have Design Review arrangements in place. There are a number of local authorities across the region that do. For those that don’t, the Yorkshire Design Review Panel, is managed by Integreat Plus, is able to review schemes of all shapes and sizes at pre-application stage to help you with the planning process.
